An incredibly rare display from the Disneyland Resort in California. This authentic Disneyana theme park memorabilia is one of the crown jewels of my selection here at All Vintage Posters. Concept art showcases the planned Cars Land themed area inside Disney California Adventure Park, which is based on the Disney/Pixar film franchise Cars.
The area was once a parking lot for Disneyland, and after a 1.1 billion dollar investment in the 12 acre site, the 5 years long project opened on June 15, 2012. Featuring a replica of the town of Radiator Springs from the films, the main ride is Radiator Springs Racers.
This is an amazing place, with all the expertise and world building you would expect from Disney. In the evenings, as the sun sets, all the neon lights come on and it's. just. magical.
This concept art shows an artist's rendition (no artist signature) of an aerial view of Cars Land before it was built. You can see the track for Radiator Springs Racers, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, and Luigi's Flying Tires as well as The Cozy Cone and Flo's V8 Cafe.
The image is printed on a DiBond metal sign measuring 23 inches x 38.5 inches. The surface has a satin sheen. There are holes in the corners where it was screwed on to the actual construction hoarding at Disneyland Resort.
Here are some photos taken by Loren Javier on Sept 2, 2011 showing the sign up in Disneyland at the temporary entrance to Disney California Adventure Park. There are a few scuffs and minor scratches around the edges of this sign from normal park use, see photos below for details of condition. Otherwise, in good condition.
The beautiful art deco style turquoise frame is part of the printed image. This rare piece is part of Disney history and coveted by Disneyana collectors.
