This is the original poster for the 1981 Thai release of director John Carpenter’s sci-fi classic Escape From New York. The artist is the well known, prolific Tongdee Panumas. His dramatic artwork from the Thai release was also repurposed in Italy and Argentina. Colourful and dynamic, with exaggerated foreshortening, we don’t even mind that he put Snake’s patch on the wrong eye. Snake Plisskin being the main character, played by Kurt Russell. The film features a lengthy list of big Hollywood talent, including Ernest Borgnine, Lee Van Cleef, Donald Pleasence, Harry Dean Stanton, Isaac Hayes and Adrienne Barbeau. Escape From New York was a huge hit movie for John Carpenter, fresh off his Halloween and The Fog success.
Measures 25 9/16 x 37.5 inches (65 by 95.3 cm) this poster has been deacidified, linenbacked and restored. Very good condition.
