Operazione Dynomite (From Once Upon A Time In Hollywood)

$950.00 CDN

This is a poster from the 9th Tarantino film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which was nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. The movie, Operazione Dynomite, never existed. Quentin Tarantino commissioned three master poster artists to create a series of posters to be used as set dressing and for publicity. The artist of this poster is Steven Chorney.

These posters were created in small quantities so the chance to acquire them is slight. (The Blu-ray collector’s edition contains a miniature version of this poster design.)

None of these posters were used for a theatrical release, since the movies don’t exist outside of the story in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. There are photos of them being used as “wilding” or “wildposting” posters in Canne when Once Upon A Time In Hollywood premiered. This means they were not printed for use in theatres, but were pasted up in public places in advance of the film.

The lead character, Rick Dalton, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is an actor in late 1960’s Hollywood. Rick Dalton owns posters from his films and displays them in his home. As you are watching the film you will see these movie posters used as props and also flashed on the screen to show the various movies Rick Dalton has acted in.

You can read more about these posters in my blog post The Faux Posters In Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

The poster available for purchase is the the format for a faux video store poster. It’s a bit smaller than a one sheet, measuring at 55 cm by 100 cm (21.5 inches by 39.25 inches). Condition is fine; minor fold wear, which was intentional.

It must be explained that all the fold lines were completely by design to present as a real, vintage 1960’s poster would have looked. There are “creases” and “soil” that were printed on to the poster, also by design, to deliberately give an aged and used appearance.

The poster is absolutely new and unmarked. I have more than one copy of this poster and each one is exactly the same, even down to the creases of the machine folds which are absolutely identical. Due to the obvious intent of the artist to have this poster appear to have fold lines and imperfections, I couldn’t bring myself to touch up the fold lines and ruin the effect and intention of the artist. This poster is not linenbacked. More photos below.
